Manufacturing companies’ main activity is to chemically, mechanically or physically transform materials or substances into new products. These companies might call themselves producers, makers, manufacturers or something else entirely.

Manufactured products can be either finished or semi-finished. Finished means they’re ready to be used or consumed—like a piece of clothing or a reclining chair. Semi-finished refers to raw materials produced for another business to use in further manufacturing.

Manufacturers might also do related activities, including assembling final goods or component parts, blending materials, or finishing products—for example, by dyeing, heat-treating or plating them.
